I’d like to retag my whole library, and I’d like to automate it. I have beets set to prompt me when it tags, but doing that for a huge library is going to get old really fast. So, ideally, I’d like it to rip through and use existing Musicbrainz IDs, and only prompt me if, for some reason, the ID can’t be found any more.
Is there a way to do this?
Hi! There’s no specific mode like that, although it wouldn’t be too hard to implement. The way beets works in the normal configuration, however, is not all that different: if it finds an ID, it uses that. Only when the ID-based lookup fails (no such album exists or it matches the existing metadata particularly poorly) does it fallback to standard text-based search.
