Asciify id3 tags

I’m using beets to import into a directory which uses squeezebox. This has some kind of bug when encountering non-ascii tags.

I can asciify paths in beets yaml config, but I’m struggling to learn more about how autotagger works and how I can customize it. I’d like to asciify all tags, and if possible specify a subset of tags to import so I don’t get a lot of cruft in there.

Any way to make it work on metadata / tags? Can tags be ASCII-fied too, or just file and folder names? What’s the backend of %title? How does it determine what gets uppercased? This information is missing from the docs. Users should be aware of beet's weakneses, so as to not develop interest in the wrong solution.
