After an in-place import (no moving of files) I have changed a few album directories etc. Do I have to manually re-import those directories? Or is there a “check what is gone or has changed” import mode that I haven’t found yet?

Yo! There’s nothing that does exactly what you want, but `beet update` does part of it. (It notices deleted files and reads new metadata.)

Tracking _moved_ files, unfortunately, would be really hard—perhaps for obvious reasons.
