# Not pulling correct genre from Musicbrainz

Hello all,

I’m fairly new to using Beets, great app and with a bit more tweaking it will do what I need. Thank you.

I’m struggling to get it to pull genres. I’ve tried using the `genres=yes` setting, but that doesnt seem to work as it doesnt get whats on Musicbrainz. Is the genre feature from musicbrainz working?

Lastfm genres are a little crazy so I’d prefer not to use them. Any other options?

We don’t currently pull genres from MusicBrainz - we’re waiting on [this pull request](https://github.com/alastair/python-musicbrainzngs/pull/266) to be merged before we can do so.

The change to support this was made on our end in v1.5.0, so once this is merged you should just be able to update `musicbrainzngs` (using `pip install --upgrade musicbrainzngs`) and have genres start pulling through.
